Birkenshaw u-11s 18 Keighley Albion u-11s 30

Albion's brilliant form continued with a come-from-behind victory against a team who have been competing well against many of the county’s top teams. Both teams were shorn of a number of players, the hosts striking first blood after capitalising on an error with a clinical finish.

A misplaced pass allowed Birkenshaw to increase the lead to 12-0 before the visitors got a foothold, Reece Smollen dummying and sprinting over under the sticks and Josh Dickerson converting to leave them six adrift at the break.

After great work saw Riley Corby released, he unluckily put his foot in touch in the act of scoring. However, after a series of attacks, a rampaging Zak Bailey stretched out to touch down for his first try, with Dickerson adding a fine conversion.

Corby, now playing at second row, pierced the line on halfway before stepping the last defender to score a super try for Albion, Dickerson again converting. The hosts levelled but more super evasive skills from Smollen released Ben McParland, who cut back from 30 metres out before breaking a number of tackles to sprint home, giving Dickerson the chance to increase the lead once again.

McParland timed a tackle to perfection on the line to prevent Birkenshaw from drawing level again. Albion put the seal on the win when Smollen snapped up a loose ball before producing some sublime dummies and offloading to Evan Jones. James Sabin was hauled down close to the line but debutant Olly MacNab dived over, leaving Dickerson the chance to crown the victory.
