Yorkshire Men's League Division Two: Keighley Albion 30 Ossett Trinity 6

KEIGHLEY Albion inflicted the first league defeat on Ossett to leapfrog them in the table into third spot.

Playing up the slope in the first half, good ball work from the Albion backs saw Rob Spencer throw a dummy pass to open a gap and score out wide, Calum Hudson’s trusty boot adding the extra two points.

A good return up field from Keighley's pack from the kick-off set the platform for a big defensive set. Led by Chris Price and Jack Kennedy, they forced a mistake and captain Price went over for a converted try.

A high kick from Ossett was taken in the air by Kriss Gott but he was turned in the tackle and mistakenly played the ball in the wrong direction, the ref giving a knock-on. This gave Ossett the ball on the Albion line and they capitalised to reduce the deficit to 12-6.

However, the hosts resumed control as Josh Ireland crossed the whitewash to put them 18-6 up by the break.

Albion started the second half well, with Richard Blackburn finding gaps around the acting half position. It wasn't long before he touched down and Hudson added the extras again.

Price and Hudson were guilty of fluffing chances to increase their lead further before Rob Spencer scored the try of the day. Playing in the centre, he found a gap with half the field in front of him. From somewhere, he found the pace and stamina to get to the line and score.

It capped off a great team effort in defence and all 16 players should be proud of their performance.

Albion go to Bradford Victoria this Saturday while Albion A are at home to Batley Boys.
