WAS Wharfedale's 24-24 SSE National League One draw at home to fifth-placed Fylde two points gained rather than three points dropped?

After all, the Greens had the majority of territory and possession in each half at The Avenue.

However, the Dalesmen's coach Jon Feeley's foot is firmly in the points-gained camp.

He said: "To say it is three points dropped would not only be inaccurate but unfair, and it is also not fair relative to our effort.

"We were 24-7 down at half-time against the best counter-attacking side in the division – we paid the penalty for mistakes made when we were five to ten metres from their line – but we won the second half 17-0.

"Also we were patient, limited their game and got our last try in the 79th minute.

"We were disappointed that we didn't convert more possession in the final third in the first half but we definitely learnt in the second half."

The Greens are not only improving on the job but, although they still have many players out, are reaping the rewards of not being hampered by a glut of injuries.

Feeley said: "We had to chop and change before Christmas because of injuries to key players but we are benefitting now from more consistent selection.

"Also James Guy is growing into his role at fly half. He has had the kicking game in terms of territory and direction but now he is making better attacking decisions and was unlucky that his pass was ruled forward when Taylor Prell went in for a try."

Twelfth-placed Wharfedale, who may have flanker James Tyson (ankle) and centre Huw Morgan (hamstring) involved in the squad, are at home again on Saturday to relegation-threatened Cinderford, who are 16 points behind the Greens but only two places lower.

Feeley said: "They had a very disappointing 22-15 home defeat to Blaydon last Saturday and time is running out for them."

The visitors from the Forest of Dean are in the highest of the three relegation places, and Feeley warned: "They will be desperate and we will have to match them in terms of effort and energy and keep clear minds."
