Yorkshire Division Three: Hemsworth 53 Skipton 6

THE big Hemsworth pack proved the decisive factor in Skipton's eight-try away defeat.

The visitors' brightest period came in the opening minutes.

Skipton kicked off down the slope and were awarded a penalty for the hosts bringing down the scrum.

A quick tap by No 8 Harry McEneaney gave the visitors good field position, and a second penalty under the posts was converted by full back Jonathan Kulik for an early lead.

Hemsworth replied with slick handling from the re-start to give them an unconverted try in the corner after just five minutes.

The re-start kick went straight out and, from the scrum back, Hemsworth pinned Skipton in their 22.

A short throw-in to the front of the line caught the Skipton forwards out, and the home side's loose-head prop was over for their second try.

This time the re-start kick didn't go ten yards, and the big Hemsworth pack put pressure on Skipton's back row.

The visitors conceded a penalty for handling on the ground, which Hemsworth converted to stretch their lead.

An excellent kick through by Kulik, following a Hemsworth error, led to the ball running out of play, with winger Jack McLeod just a few yards short.

Skipton forced an error from the 22 drop-out and put the ball into the corner, but a knock-on at the line-out ended the play.

Hemsworth pinned Skipton back again and, although a penalty attempt for Skipton holding on was not successful, try number three was not long in coming.

It was converted to give Hemsworth a 20-3 lead.

A knock-on from the re-start gave Skipton the scrum, and crash ball from centre Hamish Munro saw Skipton break through.

A penalty for a high tackle on hooker Charlie Brown gave Kulik the chance to increase Skipton's tally.

The visitors took a quick tap penalty in the next phase of play for Hemsworth coming in on the wrong side, but a poor clearance kick was intercepted and the Hemsworth winger ran the length of the field for their fourth try to put the home side 25-6 up by half-time.

Skipton withstood intense pressure on their own line early in the second half, but the fifth try soon came under the posts, increasing Hemsworth's tally to 32.

The visitors then lost both Brearley brothers through injury, with stand-off Ben suffering from concussion.

Hemsworth put a penalty into the corner but Skipton defended well and entered a better period of play, gaining two penalties for the home side not rolling away.

Coach Craig Bartlett then brought on Aaron Walker for Andrew Wooler in the back row, but the relentless pressure from Hemsworth continued.

Winger Josh Berrey had no option but to carry the ball over Skipton's line, and Hemsworth gained their sixth try from the five-metre scrum.

The seventh try followed soon after, and Bartlett brought Ryan Chafer on for Martin Murray in the forwards, with Josh Smith, carrying a work-related knee injury, replacing Berrey on the wing.

They could not turn back the tide, however, and Hemsworth gained an eighth try in the corner. Skipton's woe was compounded with a yellow card for Charlie Brown and an injury to McEneaney.

Two late penalties saw Skipton held up on the line but the full-time score was a disappointing 53-6 in Hemsworth's favour.
