Wharfedale coach Tom McGee makes no bones about the importance of Saturday’s game against Cinderford.

“This is a match we need to win,” he stressed. “The players are just lacking that bit of confidence which is required at this level, but a win would work wonders for the remainder of our fixtures this month.”

He has called on Wharfedale’s 16th man – the crowd – to do their bit and turn out in force to voice their considerable support, which always makes a difference.

Cinderford beat the Greens 36-23 back in November, but their form away from home is no better than Wharfedale’s.

They lie in ninth position, just four places above the Greens, making them one of the sides McGee is targeting to beat. “We know Cinderford’s game, and we have put in place a game plan to counter them,” he said.

That plan involves the injection of pace, underlined by the reintroduction of Christian Georgiou at full-back.

And fans will be delighted to see the return to the starting line-up of prop Chris Steel, who will captain the side on his return from a long injury lay-off. Although Alastair Allen should be fit and ready, the final line-up depends on fitness tests.
