Hullensians 76 North Ribblesdale 12

NORTH RIBBLESDALE slumped to a record loss against a strong and well-organised Hull side.

A torrid start saw the hosts secure a try bonus point within 15 minutes and Ribb were soon 31-0 adrift with the game effectively over.

Non-existent tackling and basic errors cost the Settle side dear, with any possession being turned over far too easily.

Despite these afflictions Ribb's forwards held the advantage in the scrums but were unable to turn any superiority into points.

In the 15 minutes prior to the break, the visitors enjoyed some possession and, after 15 phases of pick-and-drives, lock forward James Dugdale forced his way over to make the interval score 38-5.

The second half began better for Ribb as their pack took a measure of control and were awarded a penalty try after several pushover attempts were illegally thwarted by Hull.

Despite the scoreline Ribb kept working hard, with Richard Wood and Ian Close battling hard at close quarters. Hull stamped their authority in the last 20 minutes to score several more tries, three of which came from Ribb losing the ball when in attacking positions.

Ribb need to learn how to keep the ball and, more importantly, tackle the opposition when not in possession.

There are some tough fixtures on the horizon, beginning with a trip to Old Brodleians this Saturday that will be every bit as difficult as the trip to Hull.
