NORTH Ribblesdale’s weakened side battled hard but were comfortably beaten at Clifton Park.

York had the slope in the first half and were keen to cement their dominance, but they met with stern defence from the visitors.

The home team became frustrated and gave away a number of penalties, slowing any traction they might have had.

York’s pressure finally told when scrum half Hargreaves scored a try after the forwards generated momentum from a five-metre scrum. Davies tagged on the conversion.

The Ribb midfield was proving resolute and kept the home backs at bay, but their smaller pack were on the back foot.

York extended their lead when Hargreaves tapped a penalty in the Ribb 22 and sent Goulding barging over the line. for a try which Davies converted.

A third try came just before the break with Goulding getting his second to establish a 19-0 lead.

Ribb were certainly showing plenty of resilience but they could not stop the fourth try.

A free kick in the attacking half allowed the ball to be moved wide and Newitt beat three defenders with pace to secure an excellent score under the posts. Davies again converted.

York were now keen to ensure they kept a clean sheet and whilst North Ribb continued to work hard, the one or two significant attacking plays were nullified well by the York defence.

The home team continued to pressurise in attack and as the game crept into the final quarter, it was only time before more points came.

After a good run by Nicholson on the left wing, the ball moved right and the pressure told as a York had greater numbers and Newitt got his second try out wide.

The York forwards worked hard in the closing phases of the match and Atkin scored the final try.
