The lean mean machine which is North Ribblesdale’s awesome defence must make opponents feel like they are knocking their heads against some of the local scenic drystone walls.
It is human nature to try and remove the top dog from its perch. Barnsley tried and failed spectacularly.
After a gritty, close first- half Ribb played some of their best rugby of the season. They continuously kept the ball alive with superb support play on a greasy surface, backed up by an excellent kicking game, which at times earlier in the season left a lot to be desired. Another plus point for coach Elliot Sharp.
Barnsley’s will ‘o the wisp stand-off ghosted through for a fine individual try but they never looked like crossing the line again, apart from a deserved penalty try in the last minute.
This was far too little, far too late.
This was the wake-up call lethargic Ribb needed, they took the opportunity with both hands to keep Barnsley at bay, slowly but as surely grinding Barnsley into the mud.
Ribb forged a half-time lead of 11-7 and then playing with the wind in the second-half against tiring opponents, their creative nature came to the fore.
They completely took over to register tries through Chris Heap, who has been man-of-the-match for the last two weeks, to add to his one in the first-half; super sub James Ogden and Jonny Moi Moi.
Steve Moon converted the lot and added a penalty for good measure.
After a nightmare journey courtesy of BA sub Ryan Kirkbride stirred things up nicely in his 30 minute cameo role.
This was another brilliant performance from Ribb who now have only four games left, two at home and two away, as they seek promotion.
The only downside was James Dugdale, whose line- out work was par excellence, receiving his second yellow card in two weeks.
On Saturday North Ribblesdale entertain Doncaster Phoenix in a Yorkshire League Two game which kicks-off at 3pm.
The second team also entertain Doncaster Phoenix (3pm).
