Skipton 0 Yarnbury 14 (abandoned after 32 minutes) by Warren Burnett Skipton are facing a fixture dilemma after Saturday’s match was abandoned when the referee was injured.

Match official Mike Dickinson pulled a hamstring in his right leg after 32 minutes and was unable to continue despite receiving treatment.

With no suitably qualified referee available to take over – the one in charge of a second team game on a nearby pitch was 74-year-old – the match had to be abandoned.

With Yarnbury pushing for promotion the game will have to be replayed as there was insufficient play for the result to count.

And that is proving tricky as the Sandylands club also have to rearrange their away game with West Park Leeds.

Skipton may agree to play West Park in midweek. They would also like to stage the Yarnbury clash on Saturday, May 4.

The Yorkshire Rugby Union may press for the game to be played before the end of April and that throws up another issue.

Many of Skipton’s players have pledged to do the Three Peaks in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust on the first available Saturday which is April 27.

They agreed to do this after Ellie Benyon, the girlfriend of one of the players, was diagnosed with leukemia in January.

With title-chasing Doncaster Phoenix – who Skipton visit this Saturday – due to play Selby on May 11, the Reds will be hoping that they get the go ahead for May 4.

Last Saturday’s game was always going to be tough for Skipton against their second-placed rivals.

Skipton started strongly with three-quarters Jonny Moore and Joe Porter troubling Yarnbury.

However, Skipton’s lack of discipline on more than one occasion gave Yarnbury room to get into the home side’s half and after fifteen minutes they scored a converted try to take a 7-0 lead.

Much to Yarnbury's dismay, Skipton were giving them a game.

Tom Keady was impressive as were hooker Jimmy Boynton and loose forward Sam Harrison.

Again, Skipton were penalised by referee Dickinson for not releasing the man in the tackle and once again it led to a converted try and a 14-0 deficit.

Two minutes later, with a big crowd watching, the referee went down injured and was unable to continue so the match was abandoned.

Skipton will hope that some of their good work will be carried forward into this Saturday’s game.
