MARK Walton is happy with the progress his Skipton side have made this season after two successive relegations had plunged them into Yorkshire Four.

The Reds are currently seven points adrift of second-placed Leeds Corinthians and Walton, who took over as coach in June, believes his side can win promotion.

Walton, who saw his side record a 65-0 win at Knaresborough last Saturday, said: "Leaders Wetherby look to be out of sight with their 18-point lead, but second place is up for grabs.

"I really do believe that we have a great chance. We have all the top teams to play at home and we have played more away matches than any other side.

"Things have certainly turned around at the club. There are good numbers at training and a really good spirit."

One of the stars of the win at Knaresborough was new stand-off Michael Mullins who scored 25 points. The former Blyth player is a PE teacher at Ermysted's Grammar School and Walton said: "He is a play maker and we are fortunate that he has joined us. "

Skipton have a tough challenge this Saturday when take on Wetherby in the Yorkshire Silver Trophy at Sandylands. The Reds lost 52-0 when the leaders visited them for a league game two weeks ago.
