Skipton XV 29 Bumble Gooders 55

Skipton RFC hosted a match against the Bumble Gooders at Sandylands in preparation for the first Mixed Ability Rugby World Tournament.

The Bumble Gooders are a mixed team of able bodied players and people with learning and physical disabilities, based at Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club, where next month's competition takes place.

They were formed in 2009 and were England's first mixed ability team.

The Bumble Gooders are aiming to raise £50,000 to provide accommodation and hospitality at the University of Bradford for 400 disabled and able-bodied players.

Skipton secured the first breakaway try from winger Josh Smith, converted by Matty Langstaff to establish a 7-0 lead. Bumbles hit back to lead 21-7 before slick interplay between the Skipton forwards and backs put Langstaff over for a try, which he converted before crossing the line again.

Bumbles led 26-19 at the interval and increased their lead with two early tries in the second half.

In the final quarter, several players swapped sides as play the Bumbles continued to hold the upper hand, Langstaff again on the scoresheet, though this time for the visitors.

This was a fantastic match, thoroughly enjoyed by the home crowd, with all proceeds from gate receipts and raffle going to the Bumble Gooders.
