Leeds Corinthians 7 Skipton 31
SKIPTON opened their Yorkshire Division Four campaign with a comfortable away win over Leeds Corinthians but it was no easy ride for the visitors in the first half with the home side's pack proving tricky to manage.
Player-coach Mark Walton opened the scoring, almost running the full length of the pitch to touch down. The try was not converted and the home side replied with a converted try, leaving Skipton trailing 7-5 at half-time.
A stern team talk from Walton at half time seemed to do the trick and new signing Josh Smith soon ran in two tries, evading would be tacklers and showing tremendous promise for the forthcoming season.
Strong Skipton centre Jon Currie then added to the visitors' tally with another pitch-length try. The visitors were now in control and winger Josh Berrey ran in a further try to seal the game.
Matty Langstaff converted three of the four second-half tries to give a final score of 31-7 in the visitors' favour.
Sadly, Skipton's utility back row forward, Jordan Wilson, suffered a broken ankle and will now be out of action for the early part of the season.
