Skipton 62 Mosborough5

SKIPTON extended their winning run to 11 games with a convincing ten-try victory over which has boosted their chances of clinching promotion.

They are two points behind second-placed Wensleydale with two games to play and Skipton will fancy their chance of overhauling their rivals.

While the Reds visit Ossett on Saturday before visiting Leeds Corinthians on the last day of the season, Wensleydale have far tougher assignments away to fourth-placed Hessle and home to champions Halifax Vandals.

Skipton made their intentions clear within five minutes of the kick-off on Saturday. Following a crunching tackle by centre Jon Currie, winger Josh Smith gathered the ball and fed full back Jake Duxbury who put Jamie Donnelly clear for a try.

Excellent handling put stand-off Liam Jordan clear in open play a few minutes later for the home side's second try, Duxbury adding the conversion.

Skipton now had the bit between their teeth and began to rack up the score. Winger Jack McLeod had an easy run in, with Duxbury again adding the conversion and Smith followed a few minutes later with try number four, to secure the bonus point.

Good forward play by prop Chris Wright, second row Harry McEneaney and back row Luke Stockton put Jordan away and a fantastic looping pass put the ball down the back line with McLeod going over in the corner for his second try. Duxbury added the extra points.

A penalty to Skipton for Mosborough not rolling away resulted in No 8 Ben Hall going over f

rom an attacking line-out to establish a 36-0 half-time lead.

Skipton drove Mosborough off the ball at the first scrum of the second half and Stockton put Hall away but the pass went forward.

Duxbury ran in a try of his own under the posts and added the extra points while replacement winger Hamish Munro secured the home side's eighth try after great back play. Duxbury brought the half-century up with the conversion.

Coach Dave Duxbury made some changes to the Skipton pack with the welcome return of Aaron Walker at second row, following a period of absence with a dislocated shoulder, and Daryl Swales at prop.

The home side's forward dominance continued although the visitors did secure a consolation try, with the conversion attempt hitting the post.

Hall scored try number nine for Skipton from a quickly-taken tap penalty. Duxbury again added the extra points and Munro rounded off Skipton's afternoon with try number ten following a chip through by Jordan.
