Wharfedale travel to Fylde on Saturday for the second time in six weeks.

On Saturday, December 22, they were confined to the clubhouse to watch the normally well-drained pitch fill with water, and the SSE National League One match was called off.

The Blackpool club, fancied by some to be among the division’s front-runners, are having only an average season, sitting in tenth position, just three places above Wharfedale.

Back in September at The Avenue, the Greens achieved what was to become their trademark for the season – having given their opponents a good start, they put in a grandstand finish and just pipped them to the post by 21-17.

Fylde’s away record is not good, but at home they are a different proposition, having won seven and lost only two, the defeats coming at the hands of newly-promoted Old Albanians and Loughborough Students.

Indeed against the Students in December they failed to score a try. Last Saturday they conceded seven tries in their 52-19 defeat at Cinderford.

The Wharfedale selectors have kept the nucleus of the side which performed with such character last Saturday at Blaydon.

The backs remain unchanged, while in the pack Joe Altham starts in place of the suspended Adam Howard, and flanker Tom Wareing, scorer of the Greens’ final try last Saturday, makes his debut in the starting line-up, Jim Mason moving to the bench.

After a long lay-off, Aaron Myers played 80 minutes for the Foresters in last week’s fine 18-12 win at Blaydon, and is sure to make an appearance off the bench at some stage.
