Wharfedale 19, Blackheath 24

On a wet and windy day in the Dales, both sides tried to play open rugby in this SSE National League One clash.

As Blackheath coach Simon Legg said: "It was a cracking game of rugby between two great clubs. Club (Blackheath) fought to the death and snatched a win at the end of the game."

Wharfedale started the stronger and scored when they drove over the line and Luke Cole got the touchdown which Tom Barrett converted.

Blackheath's first try came when James Catt was awarded a try by touching the post with the ball. Simon Whatling then gained the extra two points to tie the score at 7-7.

The home side regained the lead with a clean break by Dan Scarbrough, Luke Peters being on hand to run in for his first try for the club on his debut, Barrett again adding the extras.

However, Blackheath managed to draw level again when a massive overlap allowed Markus Bircham to score, with a successful kick by Whatling making it 14-14 at half-time.

A break by scrum half Matthew Dudman again found Peters in the clear, and Dale edged ahead for the third time. Barrett found the wind too strong and missed the conversion.

Back came Club and, with only 14 men after Thomas Stradwick had been sin-binned, Joseph Hardy scored.

Wharfedale finished strongly but poor play saw them concede territory and possession and the visitors grabbed the win with a last-gasp try from Richard Windsor. Neither of Blackheath's second-half tries were converted.

So this was another home defeat for Wharfedale, who have not won at home since beating Esher last year!
