AFTER what can only be described as a chalk-and-cheese performance at Coventry last Saturday, Wharfedale coach Jon Feeley expects his players to be on the ball from the off this weekend at home to Blackheath.

The Greens had an awful opening in the Midlands and were 14-0 down after seven minutes on the way to conceding six tries in the first half alone by which time they trailed 43-5.

However, buoyed by the efforts of the five replacements that Feeley made at half-time, Wharfedale ran in 21 unanswered points to at least gain a bonus point and some pride on the way to a 53-26 defeat.

Feeley said: "The second half was excellent and showed what we are capable of, and I expect the 20 players in the squad to show that from minute one on Saturday."

He felt compelled to bring off Tom Davidson, Mat Beesley, Dan Stockdale, Richard Rhodes and Chris Howick at half-time, bringing on Josh Prell, Joe Altham, Ian Larkin, Adam Howard and Jim Mason.

Feeley said: "We were awful in the first half and the game was effectively over in the first 15 minutes.

"Tackling was the most obvious of the problems. We missed too many one-on-ones in midfield, and the first-half was simply unacceptable.

"I could not have those lads sit on the bench in the first half and watch that without giving them a chance to do better themselves.

"I am not even thinking about Blackheath. We need to look at ourselves."
