Wharfedale 22 Old Albanian 17
WHARFEDALE broke their five-match National League One losing streak in a match in which Old Albanian picked up five yellow cards.
The St Albans side had the lion’s share of the ball early on and took a well-deserved lead when good support play led to a try by Andrew Berry, which Daniel Watt converted.
Lloyd Davies kicked a penalty for Dale before the visitors were reduced to 13.
The Green Machine pressed hard and were rewarded with a penalty try, Davies slotting the conversion.
Missed tackles in midfield gave the Southerners field position, and a free run on the blind side by Michael Allan gave Old Albanian a 12-10 half-time lead.
Adam Howard was sin-binned for a dangerous tackle early in the second half, and the visitors soon made Wharfedale pay when fine handling and running saw Allan score a try.
Back came Dale, and Cameron Hudson’s converted try, tying the scores at 17-17, set up a thrilling finish.
Dale’s pack werer now dominant and the winning score was achieved with a pushover try, scored by star man Jack Barnard.
