National League One: Wharfedale 15 Rosslyn Park 27

ON A heavy pitch, Rosslyn Park Park used the conditions better in the second half to produce a splendid away win.

Penalties were exchanged early on before the Wharfedale pack drove over for two tries, the second a magnificent effort from 30 metres out.

Chris Howick was awarded both touchdowns, and Jamie Guy converted the last one.

Wharfedale went in with a deserved 15-3 lead at half-time but had to face the wind and the slope in the second half.

Scott Sneddon, Rosslyn Park’s No 10, produced a kicking display in the second half that gave the visitors a massive territorial advantage.

Wharfedale struggled to gain territory, and when they did advance up to Park’s 22, Sneddon, on more than one occasion, sent them back to defend a five-metre line-out!

Both sides earned yellow cards in the second half but the southerners made light of their loss and continued to progress their score.

Sneddon’s field kicking was matched by his 100 per cent place kicking. A successful penalty kick was soon followed by a penalty try to which Sneddon added the extras.

Sneddon then showed all-round ability by taking a bad pass and, with the defence flying into his face, he put in a deft grubber kick which he collected himself to score.

The two points followed, and Hugo Ellis rounded off the scoring for Park with a converted try from a catch and drive.
