Greene King IPA Championship: Yorkshire Carnegie 35 Bedford 20
YORKSHIRE Carnegie, who are 13 points clear of fifth-placed Jersey with three games to play, could seal a place in the play-offs if they win at London Welsh on Saturday.
However, Carnegie had to recover from a 20-18 deficit early in the second half, and proud skipper Ryan Burrows said: "It was frustrating at half-time that we were only three points in front but everyone stuck to their jobs and we had belief in each other that we could get the job done."
Carnegie scored five tries to gain a bonus point and also denied Bedford, who started the day level in the table, a point.
However, it was a Kevin Sinfield penalty that gave the hosts the lead before former Otley and Wharfedale loanee Richard Beck scored a try on the back of a break by lock Mike Myerscough.
Sinfield's conversion made it 10-0 after 14 minutes but Bedford responded with a penalty and a try before another Sinfield penalty and a try by ex-Wharfedale star Taylor Prell kept the gap at ten ponts.
A converted try and a touchdown from an 80-metre raid either side of the interval put the Blues 20-18 in front but a converted catch-and-drive try for Myerscough and tries by Jonah Holmes and Andy Saull put Carnegie in charge and gave them a four-try bonus point, spirited defence then keeping the visitors out to deny them a losing bonus point.
