Will Blaydon be at the races?

Chris Steel leads Wharfedale against Blaydon Chris Steel leads Wharfedale against Blaydon

Wharfedale never know what they are going to get when they play Blaydon, whose results are probably the most difficult to forecast of all the clubs in the division.

They set off with a seven-try trouncing of Macclesfield, then they beat Tynedale 15-10 in the local derby.

Their crushing 41-17 destruction of Fylde was then followed by two defeats, including last Saturday’s agonising 38-34 home result against Esher.

All of this puts them in eighth place but just one point behind Wharfedale, in a division which looks like the most competitive for years.

The Wharfedale selectors keep faith with the side which came so close in St Albans, with one exception. Adam Mason changes places with Adam Howard, as his reward for a major contribution to the Greens’ forward dominance.

Wharfedale: Tom Davidson; Nick Taylor, Joe Donkin, Andy Hodgson, Simon Horsfall; Luke Gray, James Gough; Chris Steel (capt), Ian Larkin, Adam Mason, Richard Brown, Richard Rhodes, Alastair Allen, James Tyson, Aaron Myers. Replacements: Steve Graham, Adam Howard, Jim Mason, Lloyd Davies, Philip Woodhead.
