Craven batsmen score eight centuries

It was a good day for the batsmen in the Craven League as eight centuries were scored. It was however a bad day for the home sides in the top division as only Crossflatts recorded a win.

There was a phenomenal game at Cullingworth where the leaders entertained Oakworth in a dress rehearsal of the Wynn Cup Final. The Roydwood Terrace side plundered a massive 323-5 in their overs.

They built on an opening stand of 219 through Aussie David Cavanagh (110) and Steve Welch (100). Gareth Marshall chipped in with 52 and Chris Welch 33 as youngster Scott Hartley bowled well in the carnage to finish with 4-77.

Joel Gallagher (61) got the reply off to a good start and with the score on 137-3 Graham Rankin joined Michael Scarborough. They put together a stand of 187 which swept the Cure Hill side to a fantastic seven wicket triumph with still 17 balls to go. Rankin finished on 103no and Scarborough on 98no.

Second placed Thornton were unable to take advantage of the slip up as they crashed by 103 at home to Sandy Lane. The Greenwood Terrace side rattled up 212 in the innings on the back of 81 by opener Ishti Hussain with skipper Mark Oldfield scoring 38 as Richard Craddock claimed 4-56.

Hussain then ripped the heart out of the Booth Bridge Lane side to close with 6-34 from 15 overs. Marc Procter top scored with 30 out of his sides 109 all out.

Haworth are next to bottom five points behind Cowling who suffered an eight wicket defeat at the hands of Bradley despite scoring 220-4, which included 102no from Gareth Frankland and 51 by S Hassan.

In the successful reply Neil Andrews rode his luck, being dropped four times, to register his 20th league century. He made 128no and Neil Robinson 40 as Bradley cruised to the points.

Glusburn stopped their worrying slide down the table with a solid eight wicket victory at Bingley Congs. The Beckfoot side posted 163-8 in their overs with Chris Dibb top scoring with 36. The Park Field side romped to the spoils with Faisal Sardar making 73no and skipper Mark Price 62no.

Embsay travelled to Sutton and made 228-8 in their innings with James Tiffany scoring 86 and David Wellock 35 as Stephen Doane took 3-38.

H Shazad made 37 as the homeside replied with 143. John Metcalfe took 4-33 and Duncan Ward 4-35.

Division Two leaders Barrowford were in cracking form at Denholme. The home side posted a creditable 167 in their innings with skipper David Wear, 60, and Robert Taylor 37 putting on 108 for the first wicket.

The red rose openers were even better as they took their side to a stunning ten wicket victory. Liam Roberts made 78no and Neal Hargreaves 71no as Wear tried seven bowlers in an effort to break the partnership.

Airedale are in second spot 7 points behind. They travelled to Embsay II and won by 119 runs. Opener M Gill took advantage of an early dropped catch to plunder 131no. He put on 84 for the fourth wicket with Alec Pue scoring 46no to take their total to 258-3.

Only Nas Hussain with 60 offered much resistance as the Shires Lane side were dismissed for 139 with Joe Perry taking 4-47 and Phil Broadley 3-18.

Glusburn II slip into bottom spot after they went down by 96 runs at home to Ingrow. They were hit by a whirlwind innings from Adie Parker who is in a rich vein of form at the present time.

He cracked 50 inside eight overs and went on to plunder nine sixes and 13 fours in a splendid innings of 125.

When he was third out at 208 the innings crept along in comparison to reach 256-6.

Opener Bas Khan was looking for someone to stay with him. Burt just when he found someone he himself was caught behind for 30. Youngster John Golson went on to finish on 32 no as the Park Field side closed on 160. Chris Herbert put in a fine spell of 17 overs to finish with 7-66 and Ian Roberts took 3-50.

Skipton CI slip to third after they suffered a heavy defeat at home to Ingrow St John's II. M Tariq 73 and M Khadeer 69 helped the Saints to a mammoth 265-9 in their innings.

The Sandylands side could only muster 85 in reply with the mercurial Mel Mason top scoring with 33.

Carleton won by three wickets up at Gargrave and bottom side Eldwick and Gilstead won by 4 wickets over at Barrowford II.

Haworth WE won their third game on the trot, winning by 136 runs at home to Cowling II. Going first their scored 242 with veteran George Stubley leading the way with 85no, assisted by Andy Benfield 48 and Andy Humble 42.

Another golden oldie, Steve Dalby made 46 as the visitors closed on 106-9 with Benfield taking 6-30.

In Division Five third placed Chatburn IIs just held off visitors Sutton IIs and won by 19 runs. Gary Williams 65 and David Holdsworth 6-66 and 43no being the stars for the losers.

Glusburn III were in cracking form at home to Gargrave II. Kev Hodgkinson 92 and Phil Shackleton 78 helped the Park Field side to 244-5.

Then Craig Watts performed the hat trick in his 8-35 as the visitors closed on 96.Foulridge II beat Skipton CI II by 33 runs at Noyna with Steve Kegg 67no and Jeff Hewson 6-23 being their stars.
