Settle bats come out at Edenfield
In a double-bill of Ribblesdale League action at the weekend, Settle and Earby each won one game while Barnoldswick lost both of their matches.
Earby got their weekend off to a good start on Saturday as they held on to secure a one run victory against Read.
Their luck however ran out on Sunday when they suffered a 159 defeat to Ribblesdale Wanderers at Church Meadow. Ribblesdale posted a total of 237-4 but Earby were bowled out for a meagre 78.
On Saturday the Earby batsman set a reachable target of 134. Sam Munns was the club's top scorer on the day, as he had a knock of 34, which included 3 sixes.
Five other players reached the teens for Earby as Will Driver took 6-49 in 16.2 overs.
In reply Read got off to decent start after opener Hanif Rehman had made 31 and Driver 40 but once they were gone Read's middle order and tail end collapsed as they finished on 133, the last wicket taken by Earby pro Ali Azmat.
Azmat had a good day with the ball taking 5-62 off 19.4 overs. Chris Walton took 3-20 and wicketkeeper David Watson had three catches and one stumping.
Although they won on Sunday, Settle didn't fare as well on Saturday when lost by 31 runs at home to Whalley.
Batting first Whalley set Settle a target of 177 behind the batting of Neil Cordingley, who hit a 50.
Settle pro Jeeva Kulatunga had a good day with the ball taking 4-31 in his 13 overs. However, he didn't do as well with the bat as he was out for a duck after facing seven balls to start the Settle innings.
Andrew Davidson's 23 and Tim Green's 47 steadied the ship a bit but despite a good effort from tail ender Neil Heseltine, who had a knock of 25, Settle were all out for 146.
On Sunday the Settle batsmen came alive at Edenfield when they beat the Lancashire side by 22 runs.
Settle opener Matthew Hutchinson kick-started the innings with a fine 58. Facing 85 balls he hit ten fours.
Kulatunga's form returned and he led the team with a top score of 75. He also hit ten boundaries, including 4 sixes off 60 balls.
The scoring did not stop there as No 6 Paul Taylor also got a half-century very quickly. He scored 55 runs off 36 balls and had 3 sixes and 4 fours to his name as Settle closed on 230-7.
Edenfield made a run at the Settle target but came up short when they were bowled out for 208. Once again Kulatunga was the pick of the bowlers taking 5-38.
Clitheroe's top order batsman were too much for Barnoldswick as they won by 38 runs at Victory Park. Peter Dibb's 80 and Michael Papps' 65 helped Clitheroe reach a big total of 234-4.
To Barlick's credit they made a go of it, reaching 196 runs before being bowled out. Luke Hodgson top scored for Barlick hitting 77 off 90 balls. He also had 13 boundaries. David Scothern also had a knock of 38.
On Saturday third-placed Padi-ham hammered Barlick by 146 runs. Kashif Siddique's century (103) helped Padiham to a massive total of 259-9.
Unfortunately Barlick were skittled out for just 107 runs.
Riaz Kail top scored on 41 while tail ender Jessica Scothern chipped in with 12 runs off 11 balls, all of which were scored in boundaries.
This Saturday the Ribblesdale League season closes with Barlick travelling to Cherry Tree, Earby hosting league leaders Blackburn Northern and Settle playing at home to Whalley.
