Settle end season with cracking win
SETTLE closed out the season with a cracking win at home to Oswaldtwistle Immanuel. Settle, who finished second from bottom of the Ribblesdale League (one point behind Oswaldtwistle) beat their league rivals by a massive 165 runs.
Settle put on an excellent batting display, led by their pro Jeeva Kulatunga who top scored with a 94. He got there in only 65 balls and hit 12 fours and four sixes.
Tim Green also had a half-century, scoring 56 while young Eddie Read had a fine knock of 40. Settle closed their innings with an excellent total of 249-6. Oswaldtwistle's feeble reply saw them score only 84 before they were bowled out.
The Settle bowlers shared the wickets around with Read taking 3-24, Kulatunga 2-2 and Tom Strickland taking 2-10.
Barnoldswick finished their season at the bottom of the league with only a pair of wins to their name.
Saturday's match at Cherry Tree saw a total of 521 runs scored by the two teams. Unfortunately Barlick came out on the losing end.
Cherry Tree batted first and chalked up a massive total of 310-2 behind the batting of Zahoor Elahi and Ahmer Mirza, who reached the boundary 35 times between them. Elahi top scored with 137 and Mirza added 86.
Barlick made a good attempt at the massive target, as five players scored 30 or more runs. Arshad Latif top scored on 40, while Luke Hodgson scored 34, David Scothern 32, Paul Beech 32 and John Pickup 31. Barlick closed on 211-9.
Earby ended their season with a home loss to league champions Blackburn Northern.
The visitors scored 161 in their innings, with Earby pro Ali Azmat among the wickets, taking 5-58. Earby were skittled out for 108 in their reply, losing by 53 runs.
