Several days of rain left the football pitches of the Craven area sodden and unfit for football, consequently only six games survived in the Devonshire Carpets Craven League last Saturday.

The sole surviving match in the Premier Division, played at Hellifield, gave the home team the chance of moving several places up the table when they entertained bottom club Bradley.

The 3-1 win moved them to joint second place albeit having played several more matches than their rivals.

On a pitch that stood up well to the conditions the visitors Bradley, who had several changes due to injuries took the lead when the experienced Andy Greary's cross was turned in by James Monkhouse, however the lead was short lived as Ryan Preston brought the scores level and Carl Stanford gave Hellifield the lead just before half-time.

Neil Lambert in the Bradley goal had made two excellent saves to prevent the lead being extended before Daniel Mellor scored a brilliant goal to wrap up the points for the home side.

League leaders Grindleton recorded a 7-2 win at Cowling in Division One, the home team were blown away in the first-half when Grindleton with the elements in their favour blasted five goals without reply.

The second-half brought a different attitude from a previously lack lustre side and they were rewarded with two penalties, both converted by Alasdair McEwen, but missed chances went begging before Grindleton broke to score two further goals and leave Cowling propping up the table.

No details are to hand for the Carleton v Oxenhope game.

Earby Town league leaders of Division Two still hold a four-point lead despite going down 2-1 at Trawden Celtic who now move into second place.

It was the home side who mastered the windy conditions the better overall to retain their unbeaten tag but Earby took the lead when James Oldroyd scored from a difficult angle.

However, the lead was short-lived as Trawden, with the help of the wind, scored direct from a corner. The home side pressed to make use of the wind but Earby were defending hard but their cause was not helped when they had a player sent off for what the referee considered was a use of an elbow.

With the wind in their favour Earby must have fancied their chances but the home side were quick on the break, and from one of these they took the lead to take the points despite Earby making changes in a bid to level the scores.

In Division Three two games survived with Oakworth Reserves winning 5-3 at Grindleton Reserves while Settle United remain second after drawing 3-3 with Earby Town Reserves.

Always behind Settle equalised with only a minute remaining on a soft pitch which was only playable thanks to the work of the Settle club during Saturday morning.

It was a good competitive game with both sides endeavouring to play football with the visitors taking the lead through Karl Farrell only for Settle to score to level matters before Farrell's looping header gave his side the advantage.

Settle had several near misses and hit the woodwork on a couple of occasion and with the wind in their favour in the second-half were hoping to press home their advantage.

However the visitors kept battling hard and after another equaliser, Adam Yates scored a beautiful goal which gave Monks in the home goal no chance to save, only for Settle to gain a point when they scored with very little time remaining.

On target for Settle were David Harrison, Michael Towler and Lee Walker.
