LMS stumble at the death as league reaches finishing line
The Devonshire Carpets Craven League clubs have now almost reached a climax with Skipton LMS left looking over their shoulder at the top of the Premier Division after suffering three consecutive defeats.
LMS were beaten 2-0 on Tuesday by Cononley Sports, a week after falling
7-1 at Oxenhope and 4-1 at Grassington Utd on Saturday. That victory means Grassington could yet snatch the title if they win their remaining three games.
Hellifield Sports are in second place thanks to a 4-1 win at Clitheroe Lions. Fielding a very young side George Glowdanskey gave Hellifield a early lead but could not add to it before half time. With young goalkeeper Thomas Galloway in top form, Hellifield increased the lead when Gowdanskey scored his second and Carl Stanford lobbed the keeper for a third goal. Lions did pull a goal back but Man of the Match Stanford scored an excellent goal to secure a well deserved win. Bottom club Bradley finished a miserable season with a 2-0 loss at Cononley Sports.
The First Division championship could rest between three clubs, Pendle Athletic, Gargrave Reserves or Grindleton who could all overhaul top club Oxenhope Reserves. Gargrave have a hectic run in to complete the season with four league games and two cup finals while Pendle Athletic have five games to play and the front runners for most of the season Grindleton have hit a poor patch recently.
Gargrave Reserves had a narrow single goal win at Keighley FC when Ben Brown netted however the win was marred with an injury to Peter Thomas making a rare appearance for the club.
Earby Town clinched the Division Two title when they won 4-1 against Horton, claiming a second successive promotion. This is the first time since 1995 that the club have won any silverware, when as Earby Punch Bowl they won the Morrison Cup.
Wayne Hooper hit the cross bar early on but Paul Oldroyd soon opened the scoring however he too hit the woodwork with another effort as they squandered chances. Horton levelled through a penalty and gave Earby some anxious moments. The new half saw Horton struggling with the conditions and Earby took the lead through Anthony Dean with a powerful shot and from the kick off Jake Palmer intercepted a pass and scored a third for the home side. Horton were defending well at this stage but could not prevent a fourth goal when sub Daniel Ibbotson completed the scoring and a excellent season for the Earby club.
Silsden Whitestar are in pole position in Division Three with one game remaining and require a win to secure the championship, however Settle Utd with three games remaining could overhaul them, having to play each other in a crucial match. Barnoldswick Barons, leaders for most of the season, could miss out on the silverware despite winning against Cowling reserves 2-1. Their ill-discipline led to two red cards in this game.
