Keeper is hero as Ingleton march on

Ingleton and Rimington will contest the District Association Craven Challenge Cup Final tonight at Barnoldswick Town FC (kick-off 6.30pm).

The referee will be Stuart Hoyle of Earby who officiated in the final ten years ago when Skipton Bulldogs defeated Ingleton.

Ingleton and Barnoldswick Town seconds played out a 2-2 draw at Skipton Town last Thursday on a damp cold evening before in the gathering gloom Ingleton goalkeeper Graham Kellett became the match winner saving four Barnoldswick penalties. Curtis Wood and Tommy Murray were on target to gain a final place.

The drama of a penalty shoot-out did not look likely when Ingleton raced into a two goal lead within the first ten minutes through long serving Chris Bibby, however a third goal was correctly disallowed by referee Ian Walsh which seemed to give Town the spur to take the game to Ingleton.

They were rewarded with two quick goals themselves through Paul Holgate and Damon Clark to leave the teams all square at half time. The second half was a very even affair and with no further goals the tie was decided by penalties.

The Norman Pratt Trophy Final ended all square on Friday evening when Gargrave Reserves and Rimington Reserves drew 2-2.

On a bitterly cold night, both teams strived to play good football and kept the crowd warm in an enthralling contest.

Rimington had the better of the early exchanges with the wind in their favour but they found Adam Hudson in the Gargrave goal in good form to keep the scores level.

Rimington then began to apply pressure and when Richard Orme's goalbound header was deflected into the net by a defender it was no more than Gargrave deserved.

Just before the break Rimington were given a lifeline when a penalty was converted to send the teams in level.

Matthew Brown put Gargrave ahead and other chances went begging to increase the lead.

Rimington were not finished and their good football was rewarded when the equaliser came to set up a grandstand finish.

The tie will now be replayed. Oliver Hurst and Orme were outstanding in midfield while Daniel Thompson had a commanding performance at the heart of the Gargrave defence.
