Town set for cup final clash
In what has been up an up and down season for Barnoldswick Town, the West Lancashire League side will play Bardsey in the West Riding Challenge Cup final tonight at Woodlesford (kick-off 7.30pm).
"This game will probably be the highlight of our season," said Lynn James, secretary of Barnoldswick Town. "We've been there once before in 1999 when we were beaten by Silsden."
Her husband, Ian James, a committee member at the club, said West Yorkshire League side Bardsey are a good side but he added that Town will probably considered favourites to win.
He said: "We've been playing well over the last couple of weeks and have been creating plenty of chances."
Ian said that players have rallied around the coaching team of Stephen Chew, Mick Holt and Andy Geary.
"We've definitely underachieved this season. We were deducted four points for playing an inelgible player and that put on the back foot."
Town had flirted with relegation before Christmas in a league that was much tighter this season with the promotion of Kirkham and Wesham. But Barnoldswick now sit fifth from bottom are hoping a win in the cup final will give them a boost going into next season.
