Heroic Ribb knocked out of Senior Vase
Wigton 15 North Ribblesdale 13
Although North Ribblesdale have lost a few games this season they have yet to be outplayed.
All of these reversals could have and some should have been won, including last week's heroic effort against Skipton and this week's sterling display in the Senior Vase at Wigton,
This enthralling contest was ultimately decided by Kiwi ex-rugby league Tani Haneshera, who touched down twice in the first quarter.
The first caught the Ribb defence asleep when he tapped a penalty to himself and strolled over unopposed. His strength and determination took him through three would-be tacklers for his second. He did however miss all of his attempts on goal.
Against the strong wind and freezing rain Ribb only managed to cross the halfway line twice, never threatening in the first half.
With the elements now in their favour Ribb came out firing in the second period and soon had the larger Wigton pack back-pedalling quickly.
This sustained, continuous and unrelenting pressure eventually paid dividends and saw Ribb claw their way into the lead with a push over try by Ryan Kirkbride.
Tom Davidson made the conversion and two excellent long-range penalties.
With complete domination the erratic service from the base of the scrum, which a double-jointed juggler would struggle to control, severely curtailed Ribb's attacking options.
With time running out, from one of Wigton's rare forays into the Rigg half, they spread the ball out wide for the winger to cross in the corner.
The last throw of the dice saw Davidson's long-range penalty drop agonisingly short, so no fairy-tale pre-Christmas celebrations for the Settle contingent.
Ribb gave it their all for the second week in succession but Lady Luck was smiling elsewhere.
