Save the Mother's Trust was formed in 2003 by a group of young people who shared the belief that people in poverty and hardship need the opportunity and support to become self sufficient and independent.
Through the generous support and care of the public, Save the Mother?s Trust has provided necessary resources to a number of educational institutions for young children living in the South Asian and African regions. The SMT belief is that a sound education is the key which will open the many doors leading to self-sufficiency and independence.
?A Mother is the foundation and structure upon whom a child is moulded... ...Save the Mothers, and you will save the children and therefore the future?
Our aim is to work around the world, especially in those areas that are not brought up on the news and media on a regular basis, but need help in terms of education, employment, housing and much much more.
The name ?Save the Mother's Trust? comes from one of the primary aims of the organisation which is to construct small maternity wards in rural areas where many women and children die due to no skilled nurse being present at the time of delivery.
Today, SMT has projects in Pakistan, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland. We have been successful in establishing wells and distribution centres in Pakistan, Ghana, and Burkina Faso. We have a hospital under construction in the poorer, rural regions of North West Pakistan. This will enable further small maternity units being coordinated from this site.
We are also involved in the delivery of emergency relief programs around the world. This is a significant process in supporting people in most need, and then later may require long term programs.
We work with partners and communities to implement programs that lead to self-sustaining livelihoods, with a strong focus on women. Health, Education and Employment are essential steps along the route out of poverty. Unfortunately, millions of people have no access to basic services such as health, education, food and water. Preventable/treatable diseases and problems must be addressed at grassroots so that millions of lives which are lost unnecessarily can be saved.
