THE approval of refurbishment plans for the former House of Fraser Rackhams department store in Skipton High Street has been welcomed by the architects behind the proposals.
Plans for the prominent town centre site, which has been empty since 2019, following the closure of the House of Fraser store, will see the subdivision of the buildings into four separate retail units. There will also be changes to the rear of the site, including reconfiguration of the car park.
North Yorkshire Council, which approved the plans by Equorium Property Ltd last month, said the scheme would improve the look of the listed buildings and conservation area and 'restore the vitality' of the part of the High Street.
DLG Architects posted on X, formerly Twitter: "Our proposals for refurbishment of Grade II Listed former House of Fraser store in Skipton High Street have been approved by the North Yorkshire Council. Our scheme includes a transformation of the rear façade with a new design sympathetic to the surrounding conservation area."
