STAFF at home-shopping giant Damart – whose warehousing facility is at Steeton – have pledged their support to customers with dementia.
Around 150 employees have undertaken a training course with the Alzheimer’s Society to learn how best to help people with the condition.
The company has also donated £5,000 to the charity for its West Yorkshire Side by Side service, which pairs-up people who have dementia with volunteers.
Among those who took part in the training was Michelle Rhodes. She said: “Our average customer is 74 years old, so we do talk to some vulnerable people and supporting them is something we are very passionate about.”
And colleague Eve Martin said: “We had amazing feedback from those who attended the training and people found it helpful with their day-to-day interactions.”
