I WAS dismayed to read about the struggle for survival that many fish and chip shops face due to rising costs in the Craven Herald (UK chip shops to ask Norway for more fish to help control prices, online, June 6).
The invasion of Ukraine was mentioned as the primary cause, but I seem to remember that one of the many benefits of Brexit was that we would be ‘taking back control’ of our own waters and fish would be cheaper.
This doesn’t seem to be the case, as industry leaders are turning to Scandinavia for help with fish supplies. The article mentions that a third of fish and chip shops could shut, but the Tory MPs mentioned in the article offer nothing but platitudes in response. Maybe they could take responsibility rather than offering meaningless words of encouragement.
