Yorkshire choir records at legendary Abbey Road Studios

More than 100 Yorkshire singers have travelled to the legendary Abbey Road Studios in north London to record a selection of their favourite tracks.

Members of Rock Up and Sing! headed to the historic venue in St John’s Wood where some of the world’s most iconic artists and groups including The Beatles have recorded.

It follows months of rehearsals and preparation for the Skipton and Harrogate based family of choirs.

Local musicians, who perform regularly with the group at live concerts, provided the accompaniment for their tracks.

They included Katie Bell on piano, Cherry Bratkowski on percussion, band members Richard Jevons, Andy Whittaker, John Marley and 17-year-old Megan Humphries on the harp.

The adult choir recorded their covers of Hey Brother by Avicii and Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters.

Members of the youth choir also recorded some of their favourite tracks including Radiohead’s Street Spirit.

Choir director Rhiannon Gayle said: “Rock Up and Sing! has performed at some fantastic venues but to be given the opportunity to record at the studio made famous by some of the world’s greatest bands and artists is a real honour.

“It has been an incredible experience for all our singers and the songs we chose have a special meaning to us as a choir.

“We can’t wait to hear the finished result once the tracks have been mixed and finalised.”

The Skipton-based choir for Rock Up and Sing! will be performing in concert at 7.30pm tomorrow in South Craven Baptist Church, Sutton-in-Craven.
