A TEAM from Barnoldswick estate agents Petty recently achieved a mammoth double header, completing the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge in one day and the Burnley 10k the next day.

On Saturday, July 20, a group of eight employees from Petty, climbed the Yorkshire Three Peaks in exceptionally hot weather.

The walk, known as one of the toughest walks in the UK, is 24 miles (38.6km), and includes 1,585m (5,200ft) of ascent with walkers attempting to complete the task within 12 hours.

The Petty team, even in the hot weather conditions, managed to complete it in just over ten hours.

Ian Bythell, residential director at Petty’s and veteran Three Peaks walker, said:” It was certainly one of the toughest Three Peaks I’ve been involved in so it made the effort by the Petty team even more remarkable.”

Then with less than 24 hours to recover two of the team, Ian Bythell and Jo Applegate, ran the Burnley 10k on Sunday, July 21, both completing the run in just over one hour.

This double header of events was all done as part of Petty’s Corporate Challenge in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

The challenge sees businesses compete to raise money for Pendleside Hospice after an initial £50 given to them by the hospice.

It is then up to the companies involved to turn that into as much money as possible in a four-month period, which runs from June 1 to September 30.

Ian said: “This is such a great initiative by the hospice. We’ve already done quite a few events as part of the challenge and have many more lined up, including a charity night at The Fence Gate, but I’m hoping none are going to be as tough as the Three Peaks and Burnley 10k.”

Christina Cope, from Pendleside Hospice, added: “We’re really grateful to have had a number of prominent local businesses like Petty’s taking part in the challenge and getting so much commitment from all their members of staff. This has been a great effort by Petty’s.”
