AS part of its autumn season of events, Spot On Lancashire is bringing a play by a Canadian theatre company to Barnoldswick.

Our Frances will be staged at 7pm on Tuesday, October 9, at the Rainhall Centre.

The play by Theatre Newfoundland will celebrate the life and heroism of Frances Cluett, VAD.

Frances was born and lived in Belleoram, Newfoundland. In 1916, she joined the Volunteer Aid Detachment.

After a month of medical training she was shipped overseas and served for four years at the 10th General Hospital in Rouen, France.

The play is inspired by her letters to home, detailing horrors and heartbreak she witnessed, and revealing how her humour and resilience captured the love and loyalty of all she encountered.

To book tickets, which cost £8 or £30 for a group of four, ring 01282 345200.

Spot On, Lancashire’s rural touring network, takes professional theatre, storytelling, music and family shows to various venues across the county.
