I HAVE just looked at the 17 photographs of this year’s Remembrance Day event in Skipton (Gallery: Skipton crowds gather on Remembrance Sunday).

I am horrified. Can someone please tell me what is so amusing about terrible wars? Several people taking part are grinning at the camera.

What on earth for? I am very shocked, and no doubt many others are, too. Remembering the millions who died violently for ourselves, is a most solemn occasion. It is certainly not a photo opportunity.

If anyone wants to know how to behave at such an event, let them look at the demeanour of those taking part at the Cenotaph in London. No grins there.

Perhaps they should look at film of the Holocaust, too.
