YOUR election coverage on page five of the Herald of May 12 contains the correct voting figures yet incorrectly states that the nearest rival to Cllr Richard Foster in Wharfedale was the Labour candidate.

This is to ignore the 311 people who voted Green putting its candidate second in the poll. As that candidate, I would like to thank all those who lent me their vote on election day. I am grateful also to the excellent support I received from the small team of volunteers who gave out leaflets and who helped spread the Green Party message of environmental responsibility and social justice around the division.

The old Craven district will be sending two Green Party councillors to the new North Yorkshire authority, and I wish Andy Brown, David Noland and the other elected members the very best making sure the new ‘super council’ works well for the people, economy and environment of Craven.

Tony Serjeant,
