Skipton Players will be treading the boards again this month. They are staging the comedy, Strike up the Banns, at the Little Theatre from Tuesday October 13 to Saturday October 17.

* The Mart Theatre kicks off its autumn programme on Saturday with AC/DC tribute band Heatseeker.

Next on stage are top saxophonist Snake Davis, who makes his third visit to the Mart next Saturday, October 10, and comedian Jeremy Hardy, who will entertain on Friday October 16.

* Skipton Music starts its autumn programme on Tuesday October 13 with a re-scheduled concert by the Endellion String Quartet. It had been due to perform last season, but had to cancel after one of the violinists broke his finger.

Settle:

A group of Craven poets is holding a celebration of poetry at The Victoria Hall tonight (Thursday).

“A surprisingly large number of people read and write poetry. We wanted to give them the chance to hear poetry read to give it an extra dimension,” said Jean Harrison, one of the organisers.

“We’re going to read our own work, but also work from the Bloodaxe Books anthologies of modern poetry, Being Alive and Staying Alive.”

The guest poet will be Jean Stevens. Admission is £4.50 (£3 concessions).

* The Friends of Victoria Hall are staging an Old Time Music Hall featuring Valerie Baulard and colleagues tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm. Guests are invited to come along in costume and help to recreate the days of Settle’s very own music hall. There will be a prize for the best-dressed person.

* The Northern Chamber Orchestra will be on stage at the Victoria Theatre next Thursday, October 8, followed by tribute band Floyd 2 next Saturday, October 10.

Linton:

The Friends of St Michael and All Angels’ Church are looking forward to their next annual concert to celebrate the traditional Michaelmas festival.

Glusburn:

Glusburn Institute will welcome a new tribute band to its stage next Saturday, October 10.

Grassington:

Grassington Singers will perform “Sound Worlds” – a programme of music from different parts of the world – in the Methodist Church at 7.30pm on Saturday. Tickets costs £7 for adults, £6 for concessions and £3 for children and will be available at the door.

* Grassington Players will stage Lettice and Lovage by Peter Shaffer in the Octagon Theatre on October, 15, 16 and 17. The play is directed by Beryl Bamforth and produced by Bob Duncalf.

Clapham:

Local singing group Octameron will be bringing the sounds of America to Clapham.

The group, comprising eight singers and an accompanist, is performing a Stars, Stripes and Songs concert in the village hall next Saturday, October 10. Proceeds will be donated to St James’s Church. Ingleton:

The coffee shop at Country Harvest, on the A65, is hosting an embroidery exhibition featuring work by Hellifield woman Christine Ann Lambert. It runs until next Thursday, October 8.

Farnhill and Kildwick:

Artistic residents will stage their annual arts and craft exhibition next weekend.

The event will be held in the village institute over the weekend of October 10 and 11 and will include photographs and art by local schoolchildren. The displays can be viewed between 10am and 4pm and admission is free.

Burnsall:

Ilkley-based chamber choir Pinsuti will give the autumn concert at St Wilfrid’s Church. The singers will perform music spanning 500 years, from Thomas Tallis to John Tavener, next Saturday, October 10, at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £8 and the proceeds will go to the church restoration fund.
