A new gallery dedicated to a late Bradley artist and art lecturer at Craven College has opened its doors.

The Pearson Gallery is based at the Northern Life Centre in Sun Street, Colne, in a building that itself has a history, first as a sweet factory, then later as the British and India Museum.

Its latest role acts as a tribute to Alec Pearson, pictured left, who died on October 30 last year aged 76 and whose son, Chris, works as a designer at the centre.

The family moved to Bradley in 1982 when Alec became head of art and photography at South Craven School, Cross Hills. Throughout his career he taught night classes in Skipton and after retirement studied for an MA print degree at Bradford.

Alec’s work, some of it previously unseen, will be on display at the new gallery, which will stage a series of art exhibitions every couple of months by different artists. However, some of Alec’s work will remain in situ.

The gallery is open to the public between 10am to 5pm.
