Skipton man Lee James M Claughton has been ordered to pay £325 in fines and costs for failing to insure his vehicle.
Claughton, charged with the new offence of keeping a motor vehicle which does not meet insurance requirements, failed to turn up at Skipton Magistrates Court on Friday when the case was proved in his absence.
The court heard that Claughton had kept the vehicle without valid insurance on June 28 in Skipton.
Claughton, of Highfield Terrace, was fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £110 and £15 victims surcharge.
It is believed to be the first time that the offence, which became law in February, has appeared at Skipton Magistrates Court. Owners of vehicles have to either make sure they are insured, or declare them off-road.
