A 27-year-old Skipton man punched his brother after being denied money, a court heard.
Phillip Lee had already received £10 from his older brother and had gone back asking for more after spending it getting drunk on two bottles of wine, Skipton magistrates heard on Friday.
His older brother, Stuart Lee, had already told him he was not to go to his home if he was drunk and refused to give him any more money.
Lee punched his brother in the mouth, but was restrained by the older man who kept hold of him until the police arrived, said Niall Carlin, prosecuting.
Lee, who admitted assault by beating in Neville Street on November 23, was currently subject to a two year community order given in May for assault, the court was told.
In mitigation, Ian Hudson said it was clearly an aggravating circumstance that Lee had offended while subject to a court order. He said Lee was a binge drinker, but not an alcoholic and could go long periods of time without drinking.
He was also seeking help from the Craven Organisation for Drugs and Alcohol.
Magistrates told Lee, of Airedale Avenue, that he had an appalling criminal record and that he had come very close to being sent to prison. He was given an additional 12-month community order, to run at the same time as his existing order. He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation, costs of £85 and a £60 victims surcharge.
