Chris Moorby (Ind): Chris has lived in Long Preston all his life. Indeed, the Moorby family has lived in Long Preston and Settle for generations.

“I still live in the family home,” he says. “I went to school in Long Preston and Settle High School. On leaving school I worked for Dawson's of Settle and served my apprenticeship as an agricultural engineer – whilst attending Craven College on day release. Later I entered into a business partnership holding the main dealership for Westfalia Milking and Slurry Handling Equipment, covering large areas of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria. “When foot and mouth disease took hold in the district in 2001, I went into business as a haulage contractor. I have served, and still do, on Craven District Council and Long Preston Parish Council, mostly as chairman, for periods totalling 25 years.”

Chris Rose (Lab): Chris has lived and worked in Craven for the past 24 years. Initially she taught at Upper Wharfedale School, but now works as a tutor at Craven College.

She says: “I am a keen cyclist (as well as a car user) and am looking forward to the Tour de France coming here in 2014. It is an ideal opportunity for the region to celebrate and benefit from the event. As a member of the local Running Club I volunteer as a coach encouraging and supporting people who are taking up running for the first time.

“I also help with a local conservation group as a part of the maintenance team and raising awareness of the special features of The Wilderness. North Yorkshire has much to offer with many unique characteristics. I am keen to maintain this uniqueness and to maintain the area as a vital and viable place to live.”

Richard Welch (Cons): Richard is married with two grown up sons and is a life long resident of Settle and Giggleswick. While attending Settle Primary School, he won a scholarship to Giggleswick School, where he excelled at most sports. He has worked in most parts of Ribblesdale and knows the area and the people very well.

Having been a district councillor for 15 years and a parish councillor for several years, he has built up a vast knowledge and experience of local government and how to get the best results for the residents. Whilst attending all eight parish councils on a rotating basis, he has brought good representation from County Hall to the villages.

Richard says: “I don’t promise what I cannot deliver but I will get the best services for Ribblesdale and I always remember that rectifying the small problems can make a big difference to people’s lives.”
