A man who claimed he was his twin brother when he was stopped for driving without insurance left court in Skipton owning £655 in fines, court costs and a victims surcharge.
John Toth, 34, of Market Square, Kirkby Lonsdale, pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty.
Magistrates were told that when he was stopped on the A65 in Hellifield on September 29, he “panicked” and gave his name as Anthony, his twin brother, knowing his brother was covered by insurance on his car.
Toth said his actions were done in desperation because he knew he would lose his job if he had a motoring offence for no insurance.
Magistrates endorsed his licence with six points.
