A casual vacancy has arisen on Skipton Town Council following the death last month of Coun Linda Dalton after a lengthy illness.
Coun Dalton, 62, an independent councillor, had served on the council since being elected to the Skipton South ward in May, 2011.
She sat on two committees – public services and audit and scrutiny – and also represented the council on the Greatwood and Horse Close Community Association, Skipton Chamber of Trade and the Sylvester Petyt charity.
A formal notice of the vacancy has been issued and electors have until next Friday, February 21, to request that a poll is held to elect a new councillor.
If a minimum of ten electors come forward, a by-election will be held in the next couple of months. Otherwise, the town council will co-opt a new member.
The replacement councillor will serve until the next scheduled town council elections in May, 2015.
