There will be a party atmosphere at Neville House, Gargrave, on Saturday when resident Margaret Emmott, pictured right, celebrates her 100th birthday.
Born in York, Margaret was one of four daughters and moved to Skipton when her father, Albert Abram, was posted to Ireland during the First World War.
When he returned, he opened a garage in the town where Margaret worked in the office and got her hands dirty on the shop floor.
Her last job was at the Elite Sweet Shop next to the Black Horse, Skipton.
At the age of 25, she married Jack Emmott, who worked in the office at a local mill. They both had a love for amateur dramatics and Margaret worked behind the scenes on the makeup and costumes.
When Jack retired, they moved to Long Preston where Margaret lived until January.
In her younger days, Margaret – who has a daughter, Ann – enjoyed walking in the countryside.
