A CHARITY fundraising effort by a leading light of Craven's musical world has fallen agonisingly short.
Ben Crick, the artistic director of Skipton Building Society Camerata, just missed out in his attempt to run the Bob Graham Round - a 72-mile test of endurance taking in the most testing peaks in the Lake District - within 24 hours last weekend, instead finishing in 26 hours and 43 minutes.
Though highly disappointed to miss out by such a relatively narrow margin, which he said meant he would have to do it again next year, he said at least a friend had managed to persuade him to finish the gruelling trek, which he was running for the first time.
"I didn't know what to expect, and it hurts," said Ben, from Cononley.
In addition, other members of his team who were walking the peaks in the round as a relay have raised sponsorship cash for outreach work by the orchestra in rural parts of Craven.
