AN ambition to own a period sports car has turned into reality for Tony Barrett, now that he is taking a back seat as a partner in the Skipton furniture business, Belmont of Skipton.

He has bought himself a Morgan 4/4 and he is allowing other classic car lovers to enjoy the experience behind the wheel by hiring it out.

Originally, he planned to indulge himself with a 1960 Frog Eyed Sprite, but baulked at the price they now fetch and the cost of running one as a hire vehicle.

"I was won over by the Morgan when my son Oliver treated me to a day out in one for my 55th birthday. It was fantastic touring the Dales in it.

"The beauty about this Morgan is that it's essentially the same built and design as in the 1930s, but it has a modern engine and gearbox, so the mechanics are much more reliable when it comes to hiring it out," said Tony.

He has set up his business Craven Classic Car Hire from his home in Greenacres, Skipton, and he promises driving the Morgan will give people a taste of the glamour and nostalgia of motoring in bygone days-and turn a few heads.
