SETTLE townsfolk and visitors will have even more to smile about from Saturday - when the town's second flowerpot festival gets under way.

Organisers are hoping to repeat the success of last year when hundreds of decorated flowerpot displays - from dragons to dogs, cats to cows and even a huge spider - appeared all over the town.

The festival runs through July and August into the first weekend of September when the Settle Folk Gathering is to be held.

Steve Amphlett, one of the organisers, said that everyone was confident that the festival would be at least as successful as last year.

He said: "For the first festival we didn't know what the response was going to be - and it was fantastic. The whole community got right behind the idea and created some superb displays.

"Because this is very much a community-led festival we just have to wait and see what people come up with. The level of creativity was amazing last year and I'm sure it will be this year too."

The festival has been backed by plastic gardening products firm Stewart Garden, which has given 150 large planters to be decorated and placed throughout the town.

The 2014 festival helped to attract thousands of visitors to Settle and gave a major boost to the local economy.

Steve added: "I am very optimistic it will be another great success. It's all about putting smiles on people's faces and Settle certainly succeeded last year."
