SETTLE'S Gallery on the Green has undergone a complete refurbishment - involving a pot of the official phone box red paint and some new tiles to repair the mosaic on the floor.

Since opening in 2009, the gallery - housed in a converted phone box - has hosted numerous exhibitions, ranging from moth photographs by Canadian Jim des Rivieres to a celebration of local craft work with a knitted version of the 12 days of Christmas.

It has also held two exhibitions featuring the work of Queen guitarist Brian May - and, unlike the big galleries, it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A gallery spokesman said: "We have had visitors from all over the world and the gallery is recognised as a (small) part of Settle's lively cultural life."

It is currently displaying a selection of entries from Settle Stories’ writing competition titled My Journey to the Stars

In a test of imagination, writers were invited to describe their journey to the stars on a postcard and some of their work is on display alongside visuals that try to capture the size of the universe.

The exhibition will run until Saturday, November 28.
