MORE than 50 people attended the annual Settle One World Week meal and talk held at Settle Parish Church.
This year's speaker was Dr Philip Lewis, whose subject was "The burden of history: Why relations with Muslims are difficult and ways forward?"
An advisor to The Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales on Christian Muslim relations, Dr Lewis worked in Pakistan for six years and taught in the Peace Studies Department at Bradford University for 15 years.
Dr Lewis said that the growth of Islam in this country was the most important change since the Reformation. He stressed that there was no "average Muslim" as Muslims came from countries with very different cultures and histories. He pointed out that by 2020 a half of the city of Bradford could be made up of different ethno-Muslim communities.
The event was organised by the Justice and Peace Group of Churches Together in Settle and District.
